Favorite Time of Year

December 10th, 2013 by Colleen

This is my favorite time of year. I really try to take full advantage of all the things that make the season special. Here are my top 10 favorite things to do….

1. Making crafts with my son. See our “I spy” ornament project and other fun, easy crafts that I pinned here.
2. Decorating gingerbread houses.
3. Making cookies. This year I’m keeping it simple and traditional with chocolate chip, oatmeal and sugar cookies.
4. Spending time with family. This sounds cliché but with busy schedules, it is hard to get everyone together in a relaxed, fun environment.
5. Sitting by the warm glow of the Christmas tree at night.
6. Watching less than Oscar-worthy holiday movies on the Lifetime channel. See the line-up here.
7.  Wrapping presents. Getting creative with buttons, bows and string.
8. Driving around looking at Christmas lights with a thermos of hot chocolate and tin of cookies.
9. Hiding the Elf on the Shelf. This is a new tradition in our house and I’m having so much fun with it.
10. Planning a holiday trip to NYC. We go into the city every year for a fun, touristy trip of visiting Rockefeller Center, admiring the store windows, visiting Santa and eating good food.

NEW Hank Handkerchief Styles for the Gentlemen

November 13th, 2013 by Colleen

It’s all about the guys this November. I am happy to share with you five new Hank styles just in time for the holidays. I wanted this Hank handkerchief collection to be the ultimate in versatility. They can be worn with a suit or jeans and guys can feel comfortable pulling them out in a board meeting or at the local bar. The prints and patterns are equal parts stylish & masculine and are the perfect color palette for the Fall/Winter season.

Fabric & Trim

November 5th, 2013 by Colleen

One of my favorite things about making handkerchiefs is picking out the fabric and trim. Although I source a lot of my materials online & through catalogs, I still get excited and inspired going to fabric stores. I love checking out the new prints, stacking the bolts of fabric to visualize a new collection and just feeling the creative energy in the space. I am currently working on the Fall/ Winter Happy Hanky and Hank collections and I am excited to share them with you soon!

Cooking to Get Inspired

August 8th, 2013 by Colleen

Sometimes when I need to be inspired, I’ll cook a new meal. I love picking out a new recipe that incorporates fresh fruits and vegetables that are in-season. The meal does not have to be extravagant but the more colorful the better! On this particular day I was on a flight home from Dallas and picked up an Everyday with Rachel Ray magazine. This is actually kind of a routine for me each time I return home from traveling for business. A flight is one of the few times that I can actually unplug and I love sitting with my stack of magazines…in addition to my fashion & home décor favorites Everyday with Rachel Ray is always one of them. On this day, I selected a grilled salmon with chorizo, corn & potatoes, a kale and carrot salad with Dijon vinaigrette and a grilled donut with ice cream and fresh raspberries. It was a great way to end the day and did the trick in motivating some creativity.

New Vintage Hankies for August

August 6th, 2013 by Colleen

I still love receiving a box full of vintage hankies in the mail! I just received a new shipment of vintage hankies fresh for August and just in time for the Fall wedding season. Each collection that I put together is equally as beautiful and you may have a hard time choosing between them! There are some lovely yellows and pink shades and more scalloped edged hankies in these collections.

Vintage hankies are a great inexpensive favor for wedding guests as they walk into the ceremony. You can see some creative display ideas on my Pinterest board here.

Salt Water Taffy

July 30th, 2013 by Colleen

Hope you are having a great Summer! There is something about salt water taffy that says summer to me. I don’t feel the need to snack on taffy any other time of year then when I’m at the beach during the summer months. Its bright summery colors bring back memories of being on the boardwalk as a child…having off from school and not having a care in the world. I do have to admit that I am partial to the little round salt water taffies as opposed to the long tubular ones. I was excited to introduce the sweet treat to my son this year but was disappointed when he didn’t have the same affinity to the sticky candy as I did. He did enjoy using them as colorful building blocks though!
